Meera centre for Music Therapy, Education and Research (regd) is one of
the old and well established Music schools in Bangalore. It was started in
1988 by Vidushi Dr. Meenakshi Ravi and Mrudangam Vidwan Karnataka
Kalashree Sri NG Ravi with an objective of imparting training in
1. Carnatic classical vocal and Mrudangam for junior, senior and proficiency levels
2. Devotional Music
Educational background of Dr Meenakshi is a PhD in social work, Masters Degree and proficiency in Carnatic Music. Besides these, professional work experience in the field of marital and family counselling for 15 years, learning, singing, teaching and performing Carnatic Music gave a strong footing for the exploration of Carnatic Music from its depth.
Three dimensions were evolved in this process:-
1. Music as a promoter of human values
2. Music as a promoter of mental health and a therapeutic intervention
3. Music as an agent of spirituality
This essence was embedded in all our Music programmes and other Music
related activities.
